Sasquatch Music Festival 2014: Photos + Recap

The thought must have come to me dozens of time during my first weekend at the Sasquatch Festival in command to George Washington away , but the name is no coincidence Gorge Amphitheater - the place is just beautiful .

Like everyone else who has been in the party will attest, the act on the main stage is almost secondary to what is happening behind him: no such huge, winding canyons to give way to a placid Columbia River. The whole scene stretches forever and seems to be a cursed painting, a little smoke and mirrors trick or impossibly high green screen. A view of this beautiful on top of a music festival thus becomes a really bad place with zero seats. Because even those on the way back from the place - like me, for MIA or Cold War Kids this weekend of Memorial Day - still has the best seat in the house.

They are taking this view in. And as someone who recently moved to Washington (Tacoma permanently is where I live), let's get this out of the way - I love the Sasquatch! Festival, The Gorge and the beautiful state of Washington. Then travel by U.S. covering different festivals - from Chicago to Alabama to Tennessee all the way to the latest offering from West- Sasquatch has been one of the most pleasant in general , and not only in terms of support.

The festival has just seen its growth in the last 12 years. From small beginnings in 2002, a matter of a single day that featured the String Cheese Incident headlining, the festival expanded almost to the territory of two weekends this year. After the lack of support in the second weekend , the festival reduced to a single weekend , three-day event festival of cutting a July 4 weekend have offered sets of Frank Ocean , Neutral Milk Hotel, Soundgarden , Kraftwerk and more. But from the start and support this weekend, I would not have guessed. The sellout was a pleasure - and from what I saw for the most part, especially there to enjoy the music instead of getting hammered (save my camping neighbors and some exceptions).

Of course, the shows were great. You’ll see plenty of evidence of that in the photo gallery above. Here, however, let's take a look at the acts of tier timespan : Floor (1 pm- 3: 30 pm ) Eastern ( 15:30 to 20:00 ) and the headliners (20:00 - midnight). If you attended the party, feel free to chime in in the comments section below.

Lower Tier

I felt sorry for those with hangovers this weekend; this was a good year to show up early for. Of all the events from the beginning, it was hard to beat Stockholm, First Aid Kit from Sweden on Saturday. Before the party, I saw their live videos online, but could not have expected the beauty that came out of this sister duo. The two do not play it safe with their set and pull their debut, the lion's roar, and 2012. Instead, the two broke out a heavy dose of his next LP, Stay Gold, and holy shit these are beautiful melodies in vivo. (Well, their covers of Bob Dylan and Paul Simon were pretty amazing too).

Their harmonies lay somewhere between otherworldly and virtuous; There's really nothing in the record to compare with this sister duo and their set of principles made it a little difficult to wait for the record. A similar impression was made by Lucius favorites Paste Sunday, captivated an audience at the start of play equipment allowing blacks their growing harmonies speak for them. As someone who has seen the band on several dates this year, it's almost like you do not change a whole and the dynamics on the ground depending on the venue. For this occasion , the black suit - placement played heavy, strong and triumphant angle , making sure that there would have to compete with a stage anywhere near him.

The criminal - low levels for Tune -Yards played early on Sunday September 1 , which was received by a crowd that was clearly ahead of time to support the event . Although the songs of the band's last , Nikki Nack , dance may not have the appeal of his past catalog ( closer Save settings "water " ) , the team brought a very satisfying whole, very danceable for those who came before time . We also loved Seattle Own Light, who played his whole surf- drenched crowd early Monday. Ladies get bonus points for fitting a straight line -dance in the middle of a pretty full crowd.
